Hard Mountain Dew says it is offering a $1 million prize to anyone who can provide proof that Bigfoot exists, according to the company. The promotion, called the "Bigfoot Bounty," opened Wednesday and is scheduled to run through Nov. 30, according to a report on the campaign.
The company says entries will be evaluated using standards developed with Bryce Johnson, a Bigfoot researcher who has appeared in and produced a docuseries exploring reports of the creature.
According to Hard Mountain Dew, participants must submit at least four types of supporting material to be considered for the $1 million grand prize. The company says acceptable forms of evidence could include alleged Bigfoot footprints, handprints, thermal imaging, hair samples, audio recordings, environmental evidence and photographs purportedly showing the creature.
If no one successfully claims the grand prize, Hard Mountain Dew says 100 entrants will instead receive cash equivalent to a free 12-pack of the beverage.
Erica Taylor, senior brand director for Hard Mountain Dew, is cited in connection with the promotion.
Stories about Bigfoot — a large, hairy, human-like creature said to roam forests — have circulated for centuries, particularly across the Pacific Northwest, according to the Washington State Military Department. The creature has long been the subject of reported sightings, footprint discoveries and blurry photos and videos, according to mainstream reporting on the phenomenon.
